The UAE is blessed with numerous stretches of unspoiled beaches, although many are now surrounded by upscale beach clubs and hotels. If you’re looking for a sunlit retreat away from the crowds and don’t require an entry fee, these are the places to explore.

Well, before we roll out the list, it is crucial to remember that several of these beaches remain beautifully untainted, and it's essential to protect them, so please ensure you don’t leave anything behind!

1. Khorfakkan: Shark Island

Situated on the southeastern side of Khorfakkan's bay, this location is ideal for those who enjoy adventure. All beachgoers need to travel to Khorfakkan port, where you'll find plenty of boats ready to take you to the island. Here, you can relax in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the rocky island formation. Shark Island is an excellent spot for snorkeling, as the waters are home to a remarkable array of marine life. Alternatively, because much of the water is shallow enough to see the seabed, you're likely to spot schools of fish, as well as rays, Arabian angelfish, and friendly black-tip reef sharks.

Boat rides are expected to cost between Dhs60 and Dhs100 depending on the size of your group. Remember to bring all your necessary items before arriving at the island since no facilities are available, and don't forget a form of identification for the boat ride.

2. Sharjah: Kalba Beach

Our neighboring emirate, Sharjah, features a scenic 7km stretch of coastline, including Kalba Beach. Here, you can enjoy the pristine waters while trying to catch sight of some endangered wildlife, such as the Hawksbill turtles. Located just adjacent to Khor Kalba’s Mangrove Conservation Reserve, this area is home to rare species and is the only place in the UAE where Arabian-collared kingfishers breed. Here, you can connect with local fishermen who utilize these shores for their daily catches. This spot is tranquil but also has limited facilities, so prepare a beachside meal before you arrive.

3. Dubai: Secret Beach

Situated on the right side of Mercato Mall’s beachfront, stretching towards La Mer, this beach is a dream come true for beach lovers. Often devoid of the usual crowds that gather at popular public beaches in Dubai, this hidden treasure provides a more serene alternative. One of the attractions of this location is its simplicity, though that means it lacks amenities, so ensure you bring a packed picnic to keep energized and hydrated during your beach outing.

4. Dubai: Jebel Ali Beach

This tranquil shoreline is a charming public beach that offers a more natural beach experience in contrast to some of Dubai’s more developed beaches. Visitors can partake in kitesurfing, kayaking, and paddle-boarding along this peaceful coastal stretch. Jebel Ali Beach is free to enter; however, BBQs and camping are not allowed.

5. Fujairah: Qidfa Beach

To reach Qidfa Beach, you will need to drive approximately two hours from Dubai, but you'll be rewarded with a lovely stretch of beachfront – and possibly some mild surf perfect for boogie boarding to the sandy shore. There are also basic picnic amenities and a play area for children to enjoy.

6. Khorfakkan: Luluyah Beach

Luluyah Beach offers a serene escape for a weekend getaway. It's perfect for a mix of hiking, swimming, or even a camping adventure with friends. This beach provides a beautiful backdrop for sunsets, allowing you to admire the pastel-colored skies reflecting on the waves. Although there are no facilities at this beach, numerous restaurants and cafes are located nearby, where you can grab a meal before or after your visit. The well-known camping area, ‘Black Rock,’ is adjacent, making it easy for you and your friends to extend your weekend fun.

7. Umm Al Quwain: Mangrove Beach

Located about an hour from Dubai, Mangrove Beach opened its doors to the public in 2020 and is ideal for a day at the beach. With available amenities, you can rent kayaks and paddleboards, and when hunger strikes, there's a cafe where you can enjoy a snack. You and your loved ones can engage in water activities, go snorkeling, or simply relax on the sandy shore. Entry costs Dhs20 per car, and camping overnight is available for Dhs100. If you want to make it a full day experience, you can also have a BBQ, as long as you ensure the beach remains clean upon leaving. This beach is pet-friendly, so you don’t have to leave your furry companions behind.

8. Abu Dhabi: Mirfa Beach

For those seeking a peaceful spot away from the hustle in Abu Dhabi, Mirfa Beach is the perfect choice. This hidden gem offers a calm and private stretch of paradise. Mirfa Beach lacks public amenities, so remember to gather all the necessary supplies from the nearby small town if you plan to spend the day enjoying the crystal-clear waters or camping overnight.
