Bali rice terraces and coastline

Ideal length
6–8 days, minimum

Bali is bigger than the version most people see

Canggu's cafes and an Ubud swing photo are maybe 5% of the island. The rest — quiet coastline, working rice villages, reef that isn't picked over — takes local knowledge to find, not a search engine. We've walked most of this ourselves, more than once.

Map of Bali
Approximate Map & Locations
  1. Rice terraces and a slower pace, once you're a few streets off the main strip.

  2. Surf and cafe culture — worth a day or two, not the whole trip.

  3. Cliffside temples and a coastline that earns the sunset hype.

  4. Waterfalls, coffee country, and beaches almost nobody drives up for.

  5. Working rice valley under Mount Agung — the Bali before it was "Bali."

Good to know before you go

  • Skip Kuta and Seminyak

Unless nightlife is the point — the traffic and crowds aren't worth it otherwise.

  • Book a driver by the day

Cheaper and far less stressful than self-driving Bali's traffic.

  • Dress for temples

A sarong is required at most — many rent one on site, but carrying your own helps.

  • Slow down the pace

Bali rewards fewer stops and longer stays far more than a packed checklist.

  • Visa on arrival, plus a levy

Indian passport holders get a visa on arrival or an e-VOA online, and pay Bali's tourist levy online before landing.
