A comfortable week in Vietnam costs most Indian travellers about ₹85,000 to ₹1,10,000 per person, return flights included. A lean version of the same seven nights runs about ₹58,000 to ₹72,000, and a premium one starts around ₹1,30,000. Two lines decide where you land: the return flight and the Ha Long Bay cruise. Get those right and the rest of Vietnam is kind to your budget.

We've planned 47 trips to Vietnam for travellers. The route we cost here is a seven-night week. You start with two nights in Hanoi and one night on a Ha Long Bay cruise, then go back to Hanoi for two more nights. From there you fly to Da Nang for two nights, with Hoi An as a day out, and fly home.

What a week in Vietnam costs per person

The published figures disagree, so it helps to know why. Some pages quote ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 for a budget week, but that figure covers seven days with only six hotel nights. Package prices from some Indian sites look even lower because their listed inclusions often leave out international flights. The ranges above include the flight, which is the honest way to compare.

Here is how the comfortable week adds up, line by line, per person unless stated.

Flights from Indian cities: the biggest line

The return fare is the single largest cost of the trip, and it depends a lot on where you leave from. Kolkata is among the cheapest at about ₹18,000 to ₹28,000. Delhi runs ₹22,000 to ₹35,000, climbing in festive season. Mumbai sits higher at about ₹28,000 to ₹40,000. Booking 90 to 120 days ahead typically saves 25 to 40% on last-minute prices, which is the easiest money you will save on this trip.

Chennai has no nonstop and none was found from Bengaluru, so you connect through a hub such as Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Book it on one ticket and keep at least two hours for the connection. Sometimes flying to Delhi or Mumbai first beats the layover on total time.

Hanoi has many nonstops from India, which is one reason we start the route there. IndiGo flies from Delhi and Kolkata. From Mumbai, Akasa began flights in September 2026 and IndiGo added daily flights in late October, alongside VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines. IndiGo says its Ho Chi Minh City flights are suspended, so check the schedule before you plan a southern start.

Where you sleep and what you eat

Hotel class moves your total far more than food does. Budget rooms run about ₹2,000 to ₹3,500 a night and mid-range about ₹3,500 to ₹6,500. Boutique stays cost ₹6,500 to ₹11,500. These are per room, so a couple splitting the bill gets real value. Solo travellers pay roughly 30% more per head for the same comfort.

Food is where Vietnam spoils you. A bowl of pho costs about ₹90 to ₹150 and a banh mi ₹60 to ₹100, so a street-food day rarely crosses ₹900. In Hanoi, eat the way the city does. Have bun cha, grilled pork in a sweet, tangy dipping broth with herbs, and then an egg coffee, which is yolk whipped with sugar and condensed milk over strong black coffee. Mix in a few sit-down dinners and you are looking at ₹1,200 to ₹2,000 a day.

The Ha Long Bay cruise: where the budget swings

Overnight cruises run anywhere from about ₹9,000 to ₹38,000 per person, depending on the boat and the number of nights. For most people we would plan a budget-class overnight boat at around US$108 to 120. You get the cave, the evening on deck and the misty morning among the limestone islands without paying for luxury cabins you barely use.

If money is tight, a day cruise at US$45 to 100 with Hanoi transfers still shows you the bay. The trade-off with one night is that most boats follow the same standard route, so expect company. A two-night cruise reaches the quieter Lan Ha or Bai Tu Long Bay.

Two money checks are worth doing. First, ask whether the price includes the Hanoi transfers. The drive is about two hours by expressway, but we plan around three and a half hours each way. Second, book directly with the cruise company, because some third-party sellers have switched guests onto different boats.

Getting around, visa and the small costs

On a seven-night trip, fly from Hanoi to Da Nang. The fare is about ₹2,500 to ₹6,000 one way. A sleeper bus is cheaper but costs you a full day you would rather spend in Hoi An. In the cities, Grab rides cost about ₹150 to ₹400 with no haggling. Airport transfers run ₹500 to ₹1,200.

Indian passport holders need a visa. You apply online at evisa.gov.vn with a passport scan and a photo, and you pay US$25 (about ₹2,390) for single entry by international card. Use only that official portal, because agency sites charge several times the fee. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused. Allow three to seven working days. Phu Quoc allows visa-free entry, but only if you fly in direct, which this route does not do.

When the same trip costs more

Tet falls on 6 February 2027. Around Tet, fares climb to two or three times normal and transport sells out weeks ahead, so book in November if those dates suit you. In July and August, Da Nang resort rates can rise by as much as 50% as domestic holidaymakers arrive. In October and November Hoi An gets its heaviest rain, which can wash out the central leg.

March and April are a good window for this route. The north is warm and sunny, and Hoi An is in its driest stretch. February also works if you pack a layer for cool Hanoi days and avoid the Tet week. Our when-to-go and visa guides go into the detail month by month.

Questions travellers ask

Is 1 lakh enough for a Vietnam trip for 7 days?

It can cover a comfortable week with return flights, mid-range hotels and an overnight Ha Long Bay cruise if you book flights a few months ahead.

Is ₹50,000 enough for Vietnam from India?

It is tight for seven nights with flights. It suits a shorter budget trip of about five days from a cheaper city like Kolkata, with a day cruise.

Is Vietnam expensive for Indians?

No. Flights are the biggest cost, and booking three to four months ahead brings them down sharply. Food, local transport and mid-range hotels are all easy on the rupee.

Is 5 days enough for Vietnam, and what does it cost?

Five days covers one region well, such as Hanoi with Ha Long Bay. Expect about ₹30,000 to ₹45,000 per person on a budget and ₹52,000 to ₹85,000 mid-range.
